Inverting the Y Axis

A small but curious riddle.

When I start a new game, one of the first things I do is go into the game settings and invert the camera on the Y- axis. I always do this!

You push down to look up; you push up to look down. Seems intuitive to me! Like a telescope on a tripod!

Now my son Zag, who is 15, seems to think this is strange. He thinks I should train my brain to learn that up is up and down is down. I say there is no need to go through the aggravation of retraining the brain, when game developers offer the option to invert the camera. Which points to the fact that other players exist who share this preference. I explain to him about the telescope. By that logic, he asks, why do I not invert left and right also? Good question.

Truth is, I don’t know why I always invert the vertical axis, but never the horizontal. It just feels right. I wonder if this is a generational preference.
